Portfolio Investing

Unfortunately, there's no generic portfolio that will apply to everyone. However, the Shape of Money has created a Portfolio Calculator as a general guide.

As always, please refer to the Rules For a Safe and Successful Investment before purchasing an investment product.

Special Notes

  • Use a qualified financial adviser to assist you in defining the appropriate diversification strategy for you.
  • It is important to ensure that you have quick access to sufficient funds for an emergency. It is recommended that your rainy-day fund be on call to ensure both easy access and to protect other investments that you may lose money on if you are required to sell quickly. the Shape of Money suggests that you have the equivalent of three month's household expenses in such a fund.
  • If you intend to sell your home and buy a cheaper property to help fund your retirement, remember to include the portion of the house value you hope to utilise as a property investment, in your portfolio calculations.
  • If you're a small business owner and intend to use the business to help fund your retirement, remember to value the business as shares, in your portfolio calculations.
